FEAR

I have to admit to myself that it is me that will either ultimately hold myself back or push myself forward. Lately I have consumed myself with so much fear. I have been thinking about the worse possible situations that can occur. What a bad message to send to the universe. I must concentrate on enjoying what is happening now and not what might happen later. It's the fear about losing the things I care and love the most. What I realized is that my concentration or focus on those fears will only bring them to life.

The emotion we call...Anger

Today I thought about anger and dicipline. My supervisor was upset today because the two stories we came up with for our reporters fell through and it was out of our control. It was 10am and we were two stories short for our 4:30pm deadline. I mean trying to come up with news coverage that can translate into viewer interest and involvement is quite a challenge when covering only one borough. There's only so much you can do or come up with. I raised my scanner hoping to hear something interesting enough to report on. Sadly, nothing. The Bronx was definitely not burning today. What I realized through out the day was my supervisor's temperament and how it was beginning to affect me. How you use anger as your source for taking action intrigued me today.

"You can change fear and sorrow to anger then turn anger to action, that's the body's secret of internal alchemy."

However, what I sometimes notice is that even though anger generates action, anger can lead to destructive behavior or out of control behavior. We sometimes say things to hurt others using our words to pierce them deep. So my question to you all is: How do we sincerely use anger to generate positive action instead of negative reaction? I guess it comes down to controlling our impulses. Thoughts?

Here's to the Crazy Ones

Here's to the crazy ones.

The misfits. The rebels.
The troublemakers. The round
pegs in the square holes - the
ones who see things differently.
They're not fond of rules and
they have no respect for
the status quo. You can praise
them, disagree with them,
quote them, disbelieve them,
glorify or vilify them.
About the only thing that you
can't do is ignore them.
Because they change things.

Are you getting enough face time?

So I may be guilty of this, but it still upsets me every time I see it or if it happens to me. I was sitting down at a local mom and pop coffee shop. I was trying to read a book that was recommended to me by a friend, but I couldn't get into it. I glanced up and over. I noticed two women having a conversation nearby. As they were talking, one of them gets distracted and starts to look at her cell phone and starts texting in the middle of the conversation. The other women continues to ramble on, but you can clearly see she was annoyed at the other girls action. I remember this happening to me a very long time ago. I was out with my father and brother for lunch. My brother was plugged into his PS 2. I think I was talking about a recent film I saw or an event that happened to me when suddenly, through mid conversation, my father takes out his phone and starts to mess with it or text. Maybe I sound too dramatic, but I thought it was so rude. What ever happened to sincere, human interaction?

It just brings me back to the clever Dentyne Ice ads I see on the subway. Lets put away our devices and make some face time. Nowadays I'm realizing how close we are to losing or missing one of the simple joys in life: being together. Lets take a few moments of our day to take action in interaction please.

Music is my Therapy

He exudes dapperness...

"I love your mind design."

I know his album came out almost a month ago, but I never had the time to actually sit, listen, and absorb his wonderful music until recently. I'm a R&B junkie so I'm definitely feeling Raphael Saadiq's album: The way I See it. With its Motown sound and appeal, I find it hard to resist playing it over and over again. It's a sure fire classic. My soul is moved and I'm brought back to the times of Marvin Gaye,The Temptations, The Supremes, Smokey Robinson...the list goes on. I especially appreciate his song, "Like It." I mean why woudn't I. It features Stevie Wonder! :)

When I think about how music affects people, it's quite simple. Music has an emotional impact on people. Music is a way to express yourself and sometimes it's a way to learn how to express yourself.

P.S. I recommend you listen to "Sometimes" on his album as well! You will not be disappointed.
